What it is

IBM's consulting arm sells strategy, technology and operations services, including AI-driven workflow work for large enterprises. It is the second-largest segment by revenue but has a gross margin of about 28%, so it adds revenue more than profit.

Why it matters to the stock. Consulting shows whether enterprise customers are spending on AI projects. Flat growth means IBM's AI pitch is not yet lifting services demand.
