What it is

Visa's core product is the card network that routes and settles credit, debit and prepaid payments between issuing banks and acquiring banks. Consumer credit and debit card spending is the main driver of service and data processing revenue.

Why it matters to the stock. Most of Visa's revenue scales with payments volume and transaction count. A slowdown in consumer spending or in card penetration shows up here first.
