OpenAI shuts down Sora, ending Disney's roughly $1B AI partnership

OpenAI said on March 24, 2026 that it would shut down its Sora video app, which ends its partnership with Disney. The December 2025 deal covered more than 200 Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars characters for short AI videos and ChatGPT image generation, along with curated Sora videos on Disney+ and a planned $1 billion investment.
