GE Aerospace completes ground test of megawatt-class hybrid electric system
GE Aerospace completed ground testing of a megawatt-class hybrid electric engine system at its Peebles Test Operation in Ohio, under NASA's Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration project. The test ran simulated taxi, takeoff, climb and cruise, with the powertrain driving the propeller and charging the battery. The company said the test paves the way for flight tests, but named no aircraft or date.
- First ground test to validate the full integrated system
- Batteries from BAE Systems; complete nacelle from Aurora Flight Sciences, a Boeing subsidiary
- Next step is flight testing, with no date given
