TI adds TinyEngine AI accelerator to new MSPM0G5187 and AM13Ex microcontrollers
TI launched two microcontrollers with a built-in neural processing unit for on-device AI: the MSPM0G5187 for general-purpose use and the AM13Ex for real-time motor control. The MSPM0G5187 is shipping in production quantities at under $1 per unit in 1,000-unit lots, while the AM13Ex is in preproduction. TI says the NPU gives up to 90 times lower latency per AI inference than comparable MCUs without an accelerator.
- MSPM0G5187: Arm Cortex-M0+ MCU, production quantities now on TI.com, under $1 at 1,000 units
- AM13Ex: Arm Cortex-M33 motor-control MCU, preproduction; can run control loops for up to four motors
- TI claims up to 90x lower latency and more than 120x lower energy per AI inference
- Targets wearables, appliances, robotics and industrial predictive maintenance
