EU top court upholds roughly EUR 4.1B Google Android antitrust fine

The EU Court of Justice dismissed Google's final appeal against the Android antitrust fine, leaving the penalty of roughly 4.1 billion euros in place. The case covers agreements that required phone makers to pre-install Google Search, Chrome and the Play Store and restricted rival versions of Android. The ruling closes the case and makes the fine final, which can support damages claims by rivals.

  • Fine about EUR 4.1B, cut from EUR 4.34B by the General Court in 2022
  • Case covers pre-installation of Search, Chrome and Play on Android
  • Google says it adapted its agreements to comply with the 2018 decision
  • Penalty is now final, so rivals can pursue damages in civil courts
