Strait of Hormuz closure removes over 10 Bcf/d of global LNG supply
The EIA said the closure of the Strait of Hormuz from February 28, 2026 affected more than 10 Bcf/d of global LNG supply, about 20% of world LNG trade, mostly from Qatar's Ras Laffan plant. Prices in Europe and Asia moved up sharply while US prices did not follow to the same degree. For gas traders it was the start of a global supply shock that stayed in the price for the rest of the year.
