KLA supplies process control and yield management equipment, software and services to the semiconductor and electronics industries. Its inspection and metrology tools check wafers, reticles and chips during manufacturing so chipmakers can find defects early and raise yields. Fiscal 2026 (ended June 30, 2026) revenue was $13.58 billion, of which Semiconductor Process Control made up about 90%. The company was formed as KLA-Tencor in 1997 by a merger; its predecessors began operating in 1975 and 1976.
How it makes money
KLA sells capital equipment that inspects and measures wafers and chips at each manufacturing step, mainly to foundries, logic and memory makers and packaging houses. Equipment revenue is lumpy and follows chipmakers' capital spending, so it is driven by wafer-fab and advanced-packaging build-outs. KLA Global Services sells maintenance, upgrades and spare parts on installed tools, which produced about 23% of fiscal 2026 revenue and gives steadier cash flow. Backlog was $12.57 billion at June 30, 2026, and international customers accounted for about 87% of revenue.
