SEC EDGAR (Tesla Form 8-K, Exhibit 99.1) · Oct 2
Tesla designs, manufactures and sells electric vehicles and energy storage systems, and operates a global charging network. Its FY2025 10-K reports total revenue of $94.8 billion, split across an automotive segment (73% of revenue), energy generation and storage (13%) and services and other (13%). Investors increasingly price the company on robotaxi, humanoid robot and AI plans in addition to the car and energy business.
How it makes money
Tesla earns most of its revenue from selling vehicles (automotive sales, regulatory credits and leasing). Energy generation and storage sales (Megapack, Powerwall, solar) come second, and services and other (service, charging, used vehicles, insurance and software) third. Its strategy is to add higher-margin software and autonomy revenue (FSD subscriptions, robotaxi) and new products (Cybercab, Optimus, Semi) on top of the car and energy base.
