SEC Form 8-K, Exhibit 99.1 (Gilead) · Aug 4
EATG (reprint of Gilead press release) · Jun 15
Gilead Sciences is a biopharmaceutical company based in Foster City, California. Its revenue rests on HIV medicines, which were about 70 percent of 2025 sales, led by Biktarvy, plus liver disease, oncology and cell therapy products. Its newer launches are Yeztugo, a twice-yearly HIV prevention injection, and Trodelvy, which won FDA approval in June 2026 as a first-line treatment for triple-negative breast cancer. In 2026 Gilead bought Arcellx, whose anito-cel myeloma cell therapy has an FDA action date of December 23, 2026, and Tubulis, a drug-conjugate developer, and Ouro Medicines.
How it makes money
Gilead sells branded medicines to hospitals, specialty pharmacies, wholesalers and governments, mainly in the United States, which produced about 71 percent of 2025 total revenue. Revenue depends on patient volume, net price and new launches in a few large franchises: Biktarvy alone was $14.3 billion, about half of 2025 product sales. Royalty and contract revenue is small but lumpy, and it jumped in 2025 on one-time intellectual property sales. Acquisitions drive the reported profit line in 2026: acquired R&D charges for Arcellx, Tubulis and Ouro pushed the second quarter of 2026 to a GAAP loss of $8.45 per diluted share, while non-GAAP results were also a loss.
