What matters nowUpdated 5 h ago

  • On Oct 6 Uber agreed to buy ezCater, a US corporate catering platform, for $2.3 billion in cash, subject to regulatory approval and expected to close in the coming months; ezCater generated more than $2.5 billion of Gross Bookings over the past twelve months, and the deal is the second large acquisition Uber has announced in 2026, after the July Delivery Hero offer 1.
  • The pooled 24/7 venue price was 71.14 on Oct 13, down 0.18% from the previous close of 71.27. Recent large moves were -6.92% on Aug 5, +6.33% on Aug 7 and +4.29% on Aug 19.
  • Over the twelve months to June 30, revenue was $55.2 billion, up 16.7% year on year, with a 12.1% operating margin and $10.1 billion of free cash flow. In Q2 2026, Gross Bookings rose 22% in constant currency in Mobility, 26% in Delivery and 25% in Freight. At a $145.1 billion market cap the stock trades at 15.6 times earnings, 20.8 times EV/EBITDA and a 7.0% free-cash-flow yield. Over the last 180 days insiders made two purchases totalling 211,000 shares worth $15.3 million and one sale worth $2.0 million.
  • Autonomous rides are live with Waymo in Austin and Atlanta. A Lucid Gravity and Nuro robotaxi is targeted for the San Francisco Bay Area in late 2026, but the companies still need California driverless permits. An Nvidia-powered robotaxi network targets up to 100,000 autonomous vehicles starting in 2027 and is not yet in service.
  • Uber's Q3 2026 results are expected on Nov 4, 2026 (date not confirmed); company guidance calls for Gross Bookings of $58.25 billion to $60.25 billion and non-GAAP EPS of $0.84 to $0.88. September CPI is due Oct 14, and Polymarket odds for the Fed's October 2026 meeting put no change at 81.5% and a 25 bp hike at 17.5%.

Uber runs a global platform that matches riders with drivers, diners with restaurants and grocery stores, and shippers with carriers. Its FY2025 10-K reports revenue of $52.0 billion across three segments: Mobility (57% of revenue), Delivery (33%) and Freight (10%). Investors increasingly track it as a platform for autonomous vehicles, where it partners with robotaxi developers and fleet owners rather than building the self-driving software alone.

How it makes money

Uber takes a fee or commission on each trip, delivery and freight load booked through its apps, and earns revenue on some orders where it acts as principal. Mobility and Delivery generate most of the revenue, with Freight a smaller third segment. Membership (Uber One), advertising and business accounts add higher-margin revenue on top of the core marketplace. The strategy is to grow Gross Bookings faster than costs, convert the growth into free cash flow and add autonomous vehicles to the same network.
